The Silver Ladies of London
The Silver Ladies of London is a delightfully different historical saga, set in the early 1920s.
Clever Grace is secretary to a doctor and Jenny, Ruth and Lydia are maidservants. When they are wrongly accused of stealing a valuable necklace and dismissed,
their future looks bleak.
In a small midlands town like Ruston, mud sticks and they are without references.
Beautiful Jenny is scared to return home because her stepfather is too interested in her. Grace needs money to pay for care for her ailing grandmother and Lydia is a tomboy who is passionate about cars. Ruth knows that her motherill treat her as a skivvy. But Ruth does have a small inheritance from an aunt, and offers to support the others in moving to London to seek work there; this does not prove easy.
However, Ruth’s aunt has also left her a Silver Ghost Rolls Royce, and as Lydia is an experienced driver who has ambitions to race cars, they decide to launch their own luxury car-hire business for women only. And The Silver Ladies is born. But will these four intrepid girls fulfil their dreams and find emotional happiness too?
Reminiscent of the popular 1990s television series The House of Eliot, this is a stylish and engrossing debut novel.
