Diminishing Returns
“What we did not see, nobody saw, was the possibility of markets failure.”
Prime Minister Gordon Brown, 2009 on the global financial crisis.
Set in London and told in alternating chapters from the points of view of middle-aged couple, Howard and Samantha Kellaway, Diminishing Returns follows their annus horribilis of 2009.
Until the recession, all they had to worry about were the normal ravages of time – elderly parents, physical decline and the menopause, but nothing could have prepared them for the worst financial crisis since World War II when redundancy, debt and financial ruin threaten their carefully planned future together.
